“I’m Just Saying..”:: The One Thing Most Forgot On Valentines Day

imjustsayingThis past Saturday we got a pretty good indication of who didn’t have a good Valentines Day. I noticed a lot of salty posts on social media concerning the nature and relevance of the holiday. I kept hearing it was an overrated holiday. I personally agree that Valentine’s Day is overrated and an excuse to spend lots of money.

Valentine’s Day is supposed to be a day reserved to celebrate love. But we can do that anyday whether it’s with a significant other, family member or even yourself. What I noticed on this past Saturday that many people were more concerned about trying to love someone else that they were neglecting someone they could love– themselves.

Kendrick Lamar’s hit single “I” should be everyone’s anthem, especially the salty people from Saturday. Until you love yourself and treat yourself with love, you won’t be able to fully enjoy the greater things in life, including a healthy relationship. The most important decision of your life, the one that will affect every other decision you make, is the commitment to loving and accepting yourself.

Loving and accepting who you are and maintaining that love is a constant action. It’s a process. It’s a lifestyle. Self-Esteem

Loving yourself is about taking care of you physically, mentally, spiritually, and emotionally. Accepting yourself is about acknowledging your flaws and not letting those flaws affect your self esteem. Loving yourself is about learning about you and growing. How can you expect to love someone else if you can’t even love yourself?
