The most wonderful time of the year is here! America celebrates the return of football season this weekend! So who do you have winning it all? It’s time for our resident know-it-all’s Roderick and Nick to overreact to who’s doing what this season!
1. Who will win the AFC?
Roderick: With respect to the Colts and maybe the Steelers, the AFC Championship is looking like a collision course of last year’s heavyweights featuring the Patriots and Broncos. And I’m looking forward to the same outcome of last year’s championship game. Yes I know the Patriots have new weapons in Revis and Gronk is back but the Broncos have also bolstered their weak areas including stealing the Patriots CB Aqib Talib, adding DeMarco Ware and adding other hard nose guys to make them better. The bottom line is while both teams got better, the Broncos were already a notch better than the Patriots. Hopefully Tom can make it a more interesting game this year.
Nick: It is almost impossible to make back to back Super Bowl trips. The New England Patriots will win the AFC Championship in the 2014-2015 NFL season. Let’s be honest, the Denver Broncos took advantage of an injured Patriots team that happened to make it to the AFC championship game last season. The Pats had a great offseason with acquisitions such as Darrelle Revis and Brandon Browner providing depth at the cornerback position. Jerod Mayo and Vince Wilfork are back healthy to establish the leadership on the defensive side of the ball. Rob Gronkowski has been cleared by doctors for week 1. The Broncos and Patriots matchup is inevitable and I believe the Patriots will take it this year.
2. Who will win the NFC?
Nick: I think the Green Bay Packers will surprise everyone and beat the Seattle Seahawks in the NFC Championship. The Seahawks lack of offensive prowess will come to light this season. Russell Wilson and the Seahawks offense wont be able to lean on Marshawn Lynch forever. I think Aaron Rodgers will play MVP caliber football this year. If the Green Bay Packers are healthy I can definitely see a power shift in the NFC.
Roderick: The Seahawks, Saints, 49ers, Packers, and Panthers all have serious title contender chances in the NFC. It was looking like the 49ers and Seahawks were on a collision course for a rematch before the preseason but I can’t say that now. The 49ers aren’t looking good and then you have to add that one of their best defensive players got arrested a few days ago for domestic violence. This happens right as the NFL said they are about to start cracking down with harsher penalties for offenders. Looks like the 49ers can’t catch a break. And then you add in great teams with great coaches and quarterbacks like the Saints and Packers and I have to say it’s a toss up but since I have to choose I’m gonna go with the Packers. They had a great season despite Aaron Rodgers being in and out. He is the best quarterback in the NFL and no one seems to be talking about them. My money’s on them as he’s able to beat both the 49ers and Seahawks defenses.
3. Who will win MVP?
Roderick: I know I’m biased but at least I have facts and history on my side but my money is on Peyton Manning and Aaron Rodgers. Tom Brady will definitely be a factor but I can’t pick Tom. Peyton still has a great chance to have an MVP caliber season but if I have to choose between the two I have to pick Aaron Rodgers because everyone has been sleeping on them and forgot about the best QB. And I know he’s been watching and he loves to prove everyone wrong.
Nick: I disagree with you here Rod. I think Peyton Manning will put up another record breaking season. I think Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, and Drew Brees will put up MVP caliber numbers this year. Peyton’s stats will be better than all of the other quarterbacks and the Broncos will win 10+ games. Peyton will win back to back MVP trophies yet again.
4. Who will win the Super Bowl?
Nick: The New England Patriots will defeat the Green Bay Packers in Super Bowl XLIX. If the Patriots have a healthy Rob Gronkowski, Darrelle Revis, and Tom Brady who will stop them? I think Brady and Belichick are tired of hearing about the Spygate scandal. The Pats are the San Antonio Spurs of professional football and we all saw what the Spurs did.
Roderick: The Bronco’s will rectify their Super Bowl blunder last year and win it this year. Peyton will go out in a blaze of glory as the GOAT. End of story.
Be sure to catch the NFL season kick-off this Thursday with the Packers vs the Seahawks at 7:30ct on NBC!
