I had the pleasure of being the resident artist for Brinkley Middle School in Jackson, MS as a part of the Parents for Public Schools of Jackson’s “Ask 4 More Arts” campaign. In this program, different types of artists (from painters to sculptors to dance and theater artists) were assigned to different schools to collaborate with teachers and students to help enrich their curriculum using the art. The over arching theme of all the art projects were “Our Community– Freedom Summer” in remembrance of Freedom Summer 1964. The 50th anniversary is right around the corner this summer.
I showed the 8th grade students in Mr. Adams class at Brinkley Middle School the art of video for about 5 weeks. We all worked together to write the script and they all helped shoot and they participated in the video! Big shout out to Mr. Adams 8th grade Social Studies class you guys were awesome!
You can check out our project and all the exhibits starting Saturday May, 17 in the Metrocenter Mall. The exhibit will remain open to the public for one week, from May 17 – 22.
